As every year, ADRA Switzerland tries to give children from poor backgrounds a special treat at Christmas time, this in collaboration with partners, volunteers and donors. In Moldova they were welcomed once again to families in orphanages, women’s prisons and children’s homes.
ADRA Moldova and many volunteers use local social institutions to clarify the individual situation before the children can enjoy the gifts. In Moldova, single women often live with several children in small apartments which are barely heated and where, in many cases, even lack the essentials. Children can only dream of gifts during Christmas time. Therefore for most of them these parcels means experiencing a few moments of joy and at the same time receiving gifts and warm winter clothes. For some of them this was the first time at all that they received a present on their own. Many tears of joy flowed, also from the parents and grandparents, while the children marvelled at their presents with shining eyes and a radiance on their faces.
